Hamburg Airport Evacuated After "Pepper Spray" Spreads Through Air-Conditioning System - 68 Treated, 9 Hospitalized

The Hamburg Airport was completely evacuated this morning as passengers and staff were exposed to toxic fumes. 68 people were treated and 9 people were hospitalized. Thousands of stranded travelers were forced to stand outside for two hours in sub-freezing temperatures.

German media has reported that a small pepper spray cartridge was discovered in a trash bin in the boarding area. A police spokesman quickly stated that there was no evidence of terrorism. However, the fire department stated that the air-conditioning system was likely used to spread the gas:

Werner Nölken, spokesman for the Hamburg fire department said, “We are not assuming a terrorist attack.” The current assumption, he said, is that “some clown, for whatever reason” released pepper spray into an air-conditioning vent, causing the substance to spread. 

The cartridge found in the bin was only the size of a lipstick, he said, so it wouldn’t have been possible to injure so many people without the air-conditioning system diffusing the gas.

Other officials, while conforming that the toxic agent was pepper spray spread through the air-conditioning system appear to be neutral as to whether the incident was purposeful.

It's unclear how pepper spray could enter the system on its own.  

There were additional reports that a Hamburg subway station had also been evacuated, but these have not been confirmed.

The Hamburg Airport is the fifth busiest airport in Germany, and like most German airports features a fair amount of flights to and from the Middle East. The five-busiest non-European routes are:

It was the Bereitschaftspolizei or rapid-reaction police that used water cannon to suppress an opposition PEGIDA march a few months ago in Cologne (see second video).

Comparisons are increasingly being made to the Volkspolizei, the East German paramilitary force responsible for enforcing public order. Volkspolizei units helped build the Berlin Wall, among other things.

In the video, children, including toddlers, line up to take target practice at a plastic cup.

The warning written on the side of the pretty toy vehicle, means "Please keep your distance."

"Hipster Right-Wingers" Hang Anti-immigrant Banner from Brandenburg Gate

"Secure Borders - Secure Future"

Earlier today, protesters from the so-called Identitarian Movement scaled the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and staged an hour-long protest, which included the unfurling of a large banner.

Members of the movement have been described by Breibart as "hipster right-wingers." See their video at the end of this post.

(They) don’t have the typical “right wing” look often seen in the media. The young men and women look like average 20 somethings, no bald heads or combat boots, but plenty of hipster beards and fashionable haircuts.

Hip or not, the state has announced that the Identitarians are now under surveillance:

Germany's domestic intelligence agency said this month it was putting the far-right group under observation because it aims to subvert democracy. 

A spokesman for the agency said this month there were indications the group's activities went 'against the free democratic order'. 

Leaflets scattered by the group claimed the government is trying to replace Germany's population with Muslim immigrants. 

Berlin Mayor Michael Muller described the Brandenburg Gate protest as a 'disgusting' act carried out by enemies of democracy, according to Germany's RBB 24. 

'Berliners will not allow the Brandenburg Gate [to be] misused as a symbol of exclusion,' he added

Increasingly, the language of the current German authorities resembles the language of the East German authorities a generation ago. Though polls now show that the majority of the German people disagree with the government's immigration policy, opposition to that policy is now equated with "subversion" or an "anti-democratic" mentality.

I well remember the footage of ecstatic citizens dancing on top of the Berlin wall, where only days before they would have been shot. The pervasive East German police state had seemed invulnerable and virtually no one expected anything but very gradual change.  But what had seemed impossible occurred literally over-night.

Things appear different today. The current German quasi-police state probably has more popular support than the East German Communist party every did. Then again, we weren't prepared in 1989 either.

As I've written before, in the long run, only the Catholic Church can save Europe.

But in the short run, I'm with the hipsters.

5 Reasons Why Germans are Insane

Marx was right: history repeats itself as farce. That doesn't help its victims.

This isn't an anti-German thing. (I would be happier if it were.) After four "terror" attacks in the last few days, the Germans are merely the most prominent exponents of the insane beliefs afflicting many in all Western countries.

1. The Ansbach bomber - a 27-year-old Syrian migrant - was denied asylum in Germany. That fact was announced by the Bavarian authorities as if it were a mark in their favor. But he had been nevertheless living in Germany for two years - perfectly free, obviously, to among other things, walk into festivals and wine bars with a bomb strapped to his body. To further their case, the authorities announced sternly that those “seeking protection in Germany, must show full respect for the German legal system and the German population.” It is insane to think that those words or the policies they refer to have any meaning or force whatsoever in terms of protecting German citizens from getting (among other things) blown up.
2. The Bavarian Interior minister said, "We don't know if this man planned on suicide or if he had the intention of killing others." He was wearing a bomb. After being denied entry to a music festival, he walked into a wine bar. It is insane to believe that there is even any question that the bomber meant to kill others. Has any suicide, Muslim or otherwise, in the history of the world, attempted to kill themselves (and only themselves) by wearing a bomb filled with metal components?
3. "The investigation has found no evidence of an attempted political assassination or extremism." Granted, extremism is a dodgy term, but it has been elevated to being a supremely important term by the powers at be. Given the implicit definition offered by those same powers at be, it is insane to believe that wearing a bomb is not evidence of extremism.
4. At this point it is insane to believe that the most important question is whether or not a suicide bomber (or axe wielder or machete wielder) had concrete terrorist links. Pronouncing on that question, yay or nay, has obviously become an obsession. According to government authorities, if there are no concrete terrorist links, we should all breathe a sigh of relief. Again, not to repeat, but that is insane. It's bad enough to know that there are ISIS cells of trained soldiers and terrorists all over Germany (and the rest of Europe). But it's much worse to know that at any time, virtually every day, some random Muslim or recent Muslim migrant (who may or not have been an actual practicing Muslim, etc. etc.) might just grab an axe or machete or gun or steering wheel and attempt to murder innocent people. Were some of them mentally ill? No doubt, at least on some definition of "mentally ill." That doesn't make it any better. And then of course there are the "non-fatal" rapes, sexual assaults and other crimes. The Cologne New Year's attackers weren't terrorists. That doesn't make it any better. It makes it worse. It is insane to think otherwise.
5. Most Muslims aren't terrorists or criminals (it is said). It is insane to believe that that makes any difference. Even if we assume that most Muslims do not sympathize or collaborate on some level with the violence (which would be a misleading assumption), it is still not reassuring. Let's assume that only 1 in 1000 Muslim migrants are part of this (and we know that the true number is much much higher). Out of 1 million migrants that's still 1000 axe wielders, machete wielders, shooters, bomb wearers, homicidal truck drivers, etc. In a year, that's three attacks per day. It is insane to believe that that is something to relax or cheer about.

At this rate, civil war in Western Europe is coming. It is arguably here now at a low level. Denying that fact is insane (or just plain dishonest). At this point we must rule out ignorance. As I understand it, virtually no Western Europeans still live in caves.        

BREAKING: Suicide Bomb Attack in Ansbach, Bavaria

Initial reports that it was a "gas explosion" were false.

One fatality has been reported but he appears to have been the attacker.

Apparently, he targeted a wine bar after being denied entrance to the cancelled festival.

Blast caused by explosive device kills one person near Nuremberg

Police in the town of Ansbach near Nuremberg have said a man was killed when an explosive device he was believed to be carrying detonated near an open-air music festival. Eleven other people were injured.

Bavaria's Interior Ministry has confirmed that the explosion on Sunday night appears to have been intentional. 

The blast occurred shortly after 10 p.m. local time. 

Police said in a statement that "a man, according to our current knowledge the perpetrator, died" in the blast. 

Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann is on his way to the town. 

NTV television reported that the music festival being held nearby had been canceled for the evening. There were 2,500 people attending the event. 

Ansbach Mayor Carda Seidel said the explosion was near to an entrance of the festival.

Munich Memorial Disrupted by Muslims Shouting "Allahu Akbar!"; Germans Respond with Profanity

As I understand it, based on the Google translation of a report in Italian, the young Muslim men were ostensibly there to "mourn" the victims of the Munich mass murder. Then they started to shout "Allahu Akbar!" - the Muslim attack cry often uttered by terrorists as well as allegedly by the Munich attacker himself - but were quickly met by counter-shouts (obviously featuring profanity) by "Germans," or at least others in the crowd.

So far, this confrontation doesn't seem to have been reported by any other sources. (I was alerted to it by a tweet from Israeli News Flash.)

Munich Attack not Jihadist, not Far-Right but a "Classic Shooting Rampage"

The term "classic shooting rampage" was taken from The Mirror. The fact that we now apparently have classic shooting rampages is obviously grotesque.

The shooter has been identified as Ali David Sonboly, 18, of Munich.

He had dual German-Iranian citizenship and lived with his Iranian immigrant parents.

I assume from the name "Ali" that he was a Muslim.

However, the evidence suggests that Sonboly was not primarily motivated by Islamic ideology but rather by rage over being bullied.

Apparently he had an obsession with mass shootings and had received treatment for mental health issues.

That Sonboly was a mentally-ill teenager who was obsessed with shooting rampages for their own sake (as opposed to sympathizing with a particular ideological cause), might possibly explain why he apparently shouted out "contradictory" slogans in the first few seconds of his shooting spree.

Allahu Akbar!

You s**tty ... foreigners. I am German. You will get it!

I can only assume he was acting out roles in his twisted mind  - "Allah Akbar" as an acknowledgment of his religious heritage and the recent wave of terror attacks, and "You s**tty ... foreigners" as an imitation of the Norwegian Neo-Nazi mass-shooter Anders Breivik, whose photo Sonboly used as his WhatsApp profile photo.

Edit: It seems now that the only evidence of any Breivik link (besides the circumstantial evidence of the date off the attack) is a report from Bild that acquaintances had claimed to see the Breivik profile photo. This should make us cautious. 

Against the view that he was primarily motivated by Islam:

There are a number of reports that he made threats to his "bullying" school peers - some of whom appear to be Muslim - that he would "kill them all."

There are no reports that jihadist materials were found in the apartment where he lived. But there were a number of items discovered pertaining to shooting rampages, such as the bestselling book, Why Kids Kill.

Sonboly allegedly had an image of Breivik as his WhatsApp profile image. And the attack occurred on the precise five-year anniversary of the Breivik attack. Breivik initially claimed that he was motivated to kill seventy-seven people - most off them children or teenagers - by his opposition to Islam. He would seem an odd hero for a Jihadi.    

Sonboly hacked the Facebook account of a Muslim young woman, making an offer to buy free food for her friends at the McDonald's where he planned to initiate his attack. It has not been confirmed that any of the victims were lured to the restaurant by this, but most of the victims appear to be Muslim teenagers, among them were three Kosovaars and three Turks.

In a bizarre verbal exchange with an observer who was filming him after the initial attack, he seemed to reaffirm that he wanted to be known as German.

The shooting rampage ended when Sonboly shot himself in the head. This is almost unheard of behavior for a Jihadi.

On the other hand, some have argued that Sonboly was motivated by or "had links" with the far-right. But this doesn't seem correct either:

If the Bild report is true, it looks like Sonboly might have thought of Breivik as a hero - or at least notable enough to use as a profile photo. But no far-right political writings or materials were reported found, and Sonboly appears to have left no political manifesto. From the rest of the evidence, If he looked up to Breivik, I assume it was for the grotesque but simple reason that Breivik was one of the most "successful" mass shooters in history.

Far-right terrorists don't usually shout "Allahu Akbar!"

I expect people will continue to argue about this question interminably. And there is much more information that will presumably come out. I might be wrong in my assessment. We'll see.

Not all terrorist attacks are motivated by Islam. But these days, most are.

Or (apologies for putting it so crudely) a rape wish.

But of course those are generalizations and do not apply to many individuals.

Such as Jennifer W and Lena S, who were assaulted and robbed my Muslim immigrants on New Year's Eve, under or near the shadows of Cologne Cathedral.

Where is German justice for them?

If the perpetrators were "animals" (according to the judge) why did he give them one-year suspended sentences?

Is this the judicial version of FrancisMercy?

2. What are the sentencing guidelines in this sort of case? 
3. Why were they given suspended sentences? 
4. Can they now be deported? (Of course one knows they will not be.)

Two men who were part of the 'mass frenzy' of sexual assaults in Cologne on New Year's Eve grinned and cheered outside court yesterday after only being handed suspended sentences. 

The Iraqi man and an Algerian were found guilty for their behaviour on New Year's Eve in the city. They were the first of dozens of men to answer for sex crimes although several men have been found guilty of robbery on the night. 

Their victims openly wept in court as they described the torment they had gone through during and after the assaults. 

The judge said the duo acted like 'animals' towards their victims.

On the same day they were sentenced, Thursday, the German parliament voted to significantly tighten up the national laws concerning rape in a measure dubbed 'no means no.' 

The 21-year-old Iraqi, known as Hussain A, was given a one year suspended jail term. Hussein A. had kissed a young woman against her will and then licked her face. 

'We see that as sexual assault,' said judge Gerd Krämer. 'He forced the victim to accept the kiss and lick.' 

Speaking via a translator Hussein A., 21, said 'I apologize for what happened.' 

An Algerian, Hassan T was also found guilty of being an accomplice to a sexual assault carried out by a group of around 20 men. 

The 26-year-old told a man who was walking with two female victims 'Give me the girls, give me the girls - or you're dead.' 

The court said this was attempted assault. Hassan T was also handed a one-year suspended jail term. 

Hassan T has been in Germany since autumn 2014, Hussein A. since September 2015. 

Both the accused took pictures with their two victims before the sexual assaults. The two women broke down and wept while testifying against them. 

Jennifer W 27, sobbed as she described how she was grabbed on her buttocks and then fondled by another man while a third tried to plunder cash from her purse. 

Her friend Lena S. told how she screamed 'NO! NO! NO!' when attacked. 

They had travelled to Cologne on December 30th with the 27-year-old's fiance to watch a planned firework spectacular over the Rhine.

Text of Anti-Erdogan Poem BANNED in Germany

I don't want to spend time explaining the whole Böhmermann affair. But, as many of you know, German comedian Jan Böhmermann got into legal trouble by reading on television an expletive laced satirical poem about Turkish President Recep Erdoğan. Many believe Angela Merkel authorized the pending possible prosecution of Boehmermann as a sort of additional payment to Erdoğan for pretending to regulate the entrance of thousands of Muslim soldiers into Europe or whatever--a payment in addition to the billions of Euros he's already receiving.

Today, a German court in Hamburg banned the public recitation of the poem. Or rather, it declared that only six lines of the twenty-four line poem could be recited. 

I'm going to reproduce the poem below. But if it's okay, I'm going to take out the really dirty  words and in the style of Lenny Bruce, replace them with "blah" or some variation thereof. Purists can find the actual text here. And you can see the television clip where the poem was recited here.

Vituperative Criticism (Smear Poem)

Dumb as a bag, cowardly and uptight

The really silly part about the whole affair is that while the poem is certainly disgusting and offensive, the most disgusting and offensive parts are obviously false. Only a portion of one sentence--"oppressing minorities, kicking Kurds, whacking Christians"--could possibly have any connection to reality, and even the effect of that is largely muted by the "while watching child porn" at the end.

So part of the point was not to offend Erdoğan per se, but to do something for the sake of doing it merely because one wasn't supposed to. That is a standard part of the comedian's repertoire. In this case at least, the audience seemed to think it was funny.

Böhmermann would later confirm that he might also have had a political motive--to test the limits of freedom of expression in Europe amidst (as I would put it) the current climate of fear, intimidation and censorship inspired by a rising Islam.

The results of the test are in. Not only can you not criticize Muslim despots, you cannot even joke about not criticizing Muslim despots.

Wikipedia reports the comedian's reaction even before yesterday's ruling: 

In an interview with Die Zeit on 3 May, Böhmermann sharply criticized Angela Merkel. "The chancellor must not waver when it comes to freedom and human rights", he said. "But instead she filleted me, served me a neurotic despot for tea and made me become a German Ai Weiwei. (the Chinese dissident) " His "belief" was shaken, "that every person in Germany has a non-negotiable, inalienable right to exercise certain basic rights: the freedom of art and the freedom of expression." Merkel did "obviously not think for a moment" about the poem, which he said was only an illustration of an insult: "It was much too dumb for me to insult Erdogan. I think, anyone can see this from the stupid smear poem."

Four weeks ago, Böhmermann was put under police protection and he temporarily suspended all of his radio and television activities. I am unclear as to whether they have resumed.

The Telegraph has a live news feed on this. A few minutes ago they printed this grotesque eyewitness account from Bild newspaper:

"I heard screams, I saw a man lying on the ground, begging a man who stood over him. 'I love God, I love Allah,' he was saying, obviously to save himself," the newspaper quoted the witness, who has not been named, as saying.

It is not known whether the man who begged for his life by invoking the Muslim god was the man who later died. One other man is in critical condition.

German investigators have "identified" the suspect as "Paul H," a German-born citizen with probable drug and/or psychiatric issues. During the attack he was wearing only socks, which progressively became soaked with his victim's blood. This graphic video seems to show his progress from the train:

There is as yet no word on whether he was a self-identified or practicing Muslim.

Would it be less disturbing if we found out that he was not?

The Archbishop of Cologne is a Smirking Collaborator with Evil

I was in Cologne ten years ago.

The most poignant thing was a small and sort of obscure museum to Nazism near the Cathedral. No English translations. It was the site of a Nazi prison. You can still see the graffiti that the victims wrote, knowing they were about to be tortured to death.

But as horrific as that was, the thing that pressed upon me the most were the historical photographs. Triumphant parades. Soldiers in spiffy uniforms. Men and women throwing flowers. Nazism was a liberation, a catharsis. 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939...

They had no idea.

Then only a few years later, the photographs show nothing but burned out buildings and craters. This was the result of their...madness. How could all of this have happened so fast? Those poor ignorant people.

It is of course happening all over again. Though this time as a kind of farce. The parades have been replaced by diversity marches.

It is possible that Cologne will be destroyed again. Due to madness?

But that doesn't leave this prelate off the hook. How many will die (on all sides) to validate his smirk?

In the 1930's and 1940's, the German Catholic Church opposed the Nazis. Many good priests and other Catholics gave their lives resisting them. Some died in that prison.

But this time the Church in Germany is in full alliance with civilization's enemies. As a Catholic, it devastates me to say that. But it's true.

We need ... to say to people that this is a temporary residential status and we expect that, once there is peace in Syria again, once IS has been defeated in Iraq, that you go back to your home country with the knowledge that you have gained.

So that's what it was all about? Temporary shelter from ISIS? As far as I know this is the first time she has ever said this. As I understood it before, it was all about assimilation and so forth. But they're actually going back soon?

Are the Muslim North Africans and Afghanis going back to their own countries once ISIS is defeated in Syria?

With the knowledge that you have gained?

Does the knowledge that you have gained include how to lynch Christians in refugee camps without getting caught? How to sexually abuse women and boys in those camps? How to molest women at train stations? How to rape 72-year-old women?

Maybe those Muslims should have been studying the moral example set by 20th century German politicians.

Okay, maybe not.

Or perhaps the knowledge that you have gained pertains to studying at close range the death throes of decadent, suicidal, post-Christian cultures.

In that case I think they've probably learned something.    

Merkel is desperately trying to defend a horrific set of decisions that has and will cost countless thousands of lives--German lives and non-German Muslim lives. She thinks she can cling to power with this? I don't know. I think getting Mark Zuckerberg to collaborate with the current German police state is probably a better bet.

She must know what she has done. An honorable woman or politician would say: "I have done wrong. I apologize. This is how I propose to redress the harm that I have caused ." Or better, "I resign."

But not Angela Merkel.

I should say that it is the current governing class of Germany (CDU and SPD) who have behaved like pre-1989 Communists (see below). For them to accuse their opposition of this (who they harass and threaten at every opportunity) is grotesque.

NEUBRANDENBURG, Germany (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel tried on Saturday to placate the increasingly vocal critics of her open-door policy for refugees by insisting that most refugees from Syria and Iraq would go home once the conflicts there had ended. 

Despite appearing increasingly isolated, Merkel has resisted pressure from some conservatives to cap the influx of refugees, or to close Germany's borders. 

Support for her conservative bloc has slipped as concerns mount about how Germany will integrate the 1.1 million migrants who arrived last year, while crime and security are also in the spotlight after a wave of assaults on women in Cologne at New Year by men of north African and Arab appearance. 

The influx has played into the hands of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD), whose support is now in the double digits, and whose leader was quoted on Saturday saying that migrants entering illegally should, if necessary, be shot.
Merkel said it was important to stress that most refugees had only been allowed to stay for a limited period. 

"We need ... to say to people that this is a temporary residential status and we expect that, once there is peace in Syria again, once IS has been defeated in Iraq, that you go back to your home country with the knowledge that you have gained," she told a regional meeting of her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. 

Merkel said 70 percent of the refugees who fled to Germany from former Yugoslavia in the 1990s had returned. 

Horst Seehofer, leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), the CDU's Bavarian sister party, has threatened to take the government to court if the flow of asylum seekers is not cut. 

Merkel urged other European countries to offer more help "because the numbers need to be reduced even further and must not start to rise again, especially in spring".

Fabrice Leggeri, the head of the European Union's border agency Frontex, said a U.N. estimate that up to a million migrants could try to come to Europe via the eastern Mediterranean and Western Balkans next year was realistic. 

"It would be a big achievement if we could keep the number ... stable," he told the magazine Der Spiegel. 

Merkel said all EU states should have an interest in protecting the bloc's external borders, and all would suffer if the internal passport-free Schengen zone collapsed and national borders were closed. 

AfD leader Frauke Petry told the Mannheimer Morgen newspaper that Germany needed to reduce the influx through agreements with neighboring Austria and a reinforcement of the EU's external borders. 

But she also said it should not be shy about turning people back and creating "border protection installations" - and that border guards should, if necessary, shoot at migrants trying to enter illegally. 

No police officer wanted to shoot at a migrant, Petry said, adding "I don't want that either but, ultimately, deterrence includes the use of armed force". 

Such comments evoke memories of Germany's Cold War division, when guards in the communist East, led by Erich Honecker, were under orders to shoot people attempting to cross the heavily fortified border into the West. 

"The last German politician who let refugees be shot at was Erich Honecker," said Thomas Oppermann, a senior member of the Social Democrats.

In the middle of September, Minister of Justice Heiko Maas summoned Richard Allan from Dublin, who is responsible at Facebook for political matters in Europe. Maas blatantly demanded censorship of alleged “hate”-filled content, but he was no doubt most interested in Islam-critical publications. Two and one-half months later, Facebook announced its implementation: the pages of Michael Mannheimer and Michael Stürzenberger, for example, were completely banned. although only demonstrable facts about Islam could be found there.

These are the fruits of the Merkel regime. The “chief” met personally with Zuckerberg and her Minister of Justice Maas talked turkey with the responsible agent for Facebook in Germany. That was a few weeks ago. Mannheimer was the first one affected: Nothing more of his on Facebook. Then, ba-da-bing: Stürzenberger and Ester Seitz were banned on Facebook. I got the following cellphone message from Stürzenberger: “Another ‘success’ is that Facebook has now extinguished both my pages with 10,000 friends. Result of a meeting of Minister of Justice Mass with the responsible persons several weeks ago, which resulted in a censorship authority being established…”
