Teen Vogue Muslima is (Surprise!) a Big Fan of Hitler and the Holocaust

A Muslim woman recently took some selfies in front of an anti-Islam protest in Belgium. She "confronted" and then "charmed" the "haters." The whole thing went viral on social media. Here's the title blurb for a rhapsodic piece that Teen Vogue wrote two days ago:

Yeah. She's a total badass, alright. Social media sleuths soon found that she was a foul-mouthed anti-semite who approvingly tweeted about Hitler and the Holocaust.
There was more on other sites. Zakia Belkhiri has since scrubbed all her social media accounts, telling the BBC that "she didn’t want to look like a girl who seeks attention." But two days ago she tastefully tweeted a different view:
By the way, Sarah Harvard of Teen Vogue is a tireless author of Islamist agitprop:
Does the Holocaust count as one of the "real issues of racism"? Or is that one of the things she won't say sorry for?

My Encounter with Boy Hitler

It was at the Chicago Museum of Modern Art about ten years ago. We walked into an exhibit room that appeared to be empty. Then we turned into another room, also apparently empty. Where's the art? Is this part of the exhibit? Finally a third room, empty except for what looked to be the figure of a kneeling boy at the far end. He had his back to us.

Three rooms for this? We walked up to the figure, though I honestly can't remember why. I suppose it was because we felt that since we had come that far, we might as well go to the end.

A few more steps to get to the front of it. Then we were there. Suddenly, my companion let out a sort of nervous giggle. The kneeling "boy" was . . . Hitler.

The entire time we were the only ones in the set of rooms. I think I had an "ah, modern art" moment, and then forgot about it.

Until today.

A few minutes ago I read that a "kneeling Hitler statue" had sold at Christie's for $17.2 million. Was it that kneeling Hitler statue? The picture confirmed that it was.

The work is called "HIM."

Apparently "HIM" has been around. A few years ago it was displayed at an exhibit on the site of the Warsaw Ghetto. Yes, that Warsaw Ghetto. Once again, consideration had gone into the manner of its display. This time it was only visible from afar, through a hole in a wooden gate. And of course it simply looked like a small boy. You wouldn't know it was Hitler unless you had read the exhibit blurb. But of course that was probably why you were at the exhibit in the first place--to see boy Hitler through a hole in a wooden gate. Or to tell your friends about it or whatever.

98% of the commentary on it has been over whether the statue is "offensive." Does it "humanize" Hitler? Is that a good thing? And so on and so forth. Even the creator of the work claimed to be conflicted and said that he had considered smashing the piece: "I wanted to destroy it myself. I changed my mind a thousand times, every day."

Yeah. Sure you did.

The "artist," Maurizio Catalan had previously been best known for a life-size rendering of Pope John Paul II being hit by a meteorite. That piece only sold for $886,000.

Whatever else one might say about Catalan, his career has tracked the myriad possibilities of sculpture as performance art.

He once created an exhibit called "Another Fu**ing Readymade," which consisted entirely of objects stolen from another artist's show. Supposedly he was threatened with arrest.

And of course, he's the fellow responsible for the giant stone statue of a a raised middle finger. It was called "L.O.V.E."

Perhaps they'll put that one in Holy Name.

Vatican Insider Mistakenly Uses Hitler Metaphor to Describe Evo's Sick Pope Gift

"The Pope Wears the Decorative Honors Received From the President"

Were they communist symbols, swastikas or laughing Satan bas reliefs? Oh, at this point who really cares?

We all know what the Pope was given by his close friend, Bolivian President  Evo Morales on Friday--a hammer and sickle "crucifix" with Jesus affixed to it. Early reports say the Pope criticized or rejected it. But that turned out to be a lie.

A few hours later he apparently re-gifted it to Mary.

Holy Mother of God, please accept this vile icon with my compliments.

Francis.

Here's the current Vatican Insider story on it. But also note the Freudian slip:
Pope leaves decorative honours with the hammer and anvil in Bolivia
This morning Francis lay the two presidential honours he received Wednesday from President Evo Morales in La Paz, at the feet of Our Lady of Copacabana. One of these featured the hammer and anvil with a carving of a crucifix.
Before leaving Bolivia, Francis placed two gifts he received on Wednesday from President Evo Morales at the foot of a statue of Mary. One of these, a chain with a chunky medallion, had the figure of the crucified Christ carved into a wooden hammer and anvil. This image had been drawn by Fr. Luis Espinal, the Jesuit priest who was assassinated in Bolivia in March 1980...
Francis accompanied this gesture with the following words: “The President of the nation was kind enough to offer me two decorative honours on behalf of the Bolivian people. I thank the Bolivian people for their affection and the President for this courteous gesture. I would like to dedicate these two decorations to the patron saint of Bolivia, the Mother of this noble nation...”
Did you get it? It wasn't a hammer and anvil. It was a hammer and sickle. The hammer and anvil metaphor was made famous in a speech by Hitler, who in turn lifted it from Goethe.
One is either the hammer or the anvil. We confess that it is our purpose to prepare the German people again for the role of the hammer.
And so on and so forth. Cue World War Two and the Holocaust.

What an odd mistake.

Then again, Che Guevara, whose now too familiar mug graced the jacket of the Pope's most recent warmup act, was the moral equivalent of any concentration camp guard sadistic psychopath, as a number of his Cuban victims have testified. More on that in another post. But until then, as they say...

The crisis continues.
