I could have picked any of if at least ten excerpts as post headlines but I think the speech should be seen and heard in its entirety (it's at the end of the post).
Probably the main theme is that Islam--not ISIS or "radical Islam" but Islam itself--is toxic and potentially deadly for gays and many other minorities, and that the leftist "social justice warriors" are in the end, not their friends but their enemies.
A more general theme was the importance of the 1st and 2nd Amendments--free speech and the right of self defense.
And an even more general theme was the supreme value of tolerance--not agreement, but tolerance--and the necessity to identify and fight back against the enemies of it.
The most outrageous moment was a follow-up statement by Canadian conservative comedian Gavin Mcinnis who, after confessing that he thought homosexuality was gross (he made a pantomime to that effect) concluded by shouting "F*** Islam!" and then...well, you will simply have to see for yourself what then happened. Suffice it to say that it was the most unexpected thing I have seen on my computer this year. Which says a lot.
Undoubtedly, some Catholics will be shocked and even repelled by that incident, as well as Milo Yiannopoulos' general "pro-gay" statements including his claim that one of the reasons he likes Donald Trump is that he is the most "pro-gay" candidate of any party.
But Yiannopoulos also powerfully praised Christianity and the Catholic Church.
I'm sure a few of my Catholic blogger friends will strongly disagree with what I'm saying, or what it might seem I'm saying.
That's okay. Indeed, the irony is that whatever you might think about Milo Yiannopoulos, he's about the best friend you might have right now when it comes to defending your right to disagree.
As well as your right not to be shot.
That's right, that flamboyant gay guy in the $2,000 suit who advocates gay marriage, among other things, may just be, in practice at least, one of the strongest defenders of Judeo-Christian values, yes, even traditional Catholic values on the current scene.
Whoever said life was simple?
When it comes to resisting the Islamization of the West, we're all in this together, guys--gays, traditional Christians, Jews, women who just want to celebrate New Year's without getting a hand down their blouse, atheist bloggers and yes, even cynical Frenchmen.
That's the primary reason I started this blog, even though it is now thought of--rightly I hope--as an uncompromising forum for the defense of traditional Catholicism.
I hope it will continue to have that honored label.
Are we "in this together" when it comes to what it takes to save our souls? Of course not. And in the end, that has to be the most important thing. But you can't help save someone's soul after they've just taken a fatal bullet in the gut from a Muslim suicide commando.
And I'll ally with anyone who offers to help defend the Christian virtue of loving thy neighbor--which of course includes the proviso to help protect thy neighbor.
The rebirth of the Catholic Church will save the world. It is the only thing in the end that can save the world.
But right now, in the actual fight right now, the gay Milo Yiannopoulos, the Jewish Pamela Geller, the lapsed-Catholic Geert Wilders and many other non-Catholics are putting their very lives on the line for, well for us. Not to mention those who have sacrificed their lives for us, such as Pim Fortuyn and, yes, those French cartoonists.
With respect, that needs to be taken into account. I know God will do so.
