Canadian "Islamophobe" Arrested for Online Hate Speech Was in Fact Just a Sarcastic Liberal

This absurd story could not have been invented, even as parody.

In the wake of the attack on the Quebec City mosque, Canadian authorities are going into high gear to monitor and in some cases arrest those who engage in anti-Muslim "hate speech" online. Canada is already problematic when it comes to free speech, but it looks like things are going to get worse.

Apparently, the Montreal police force is hiring 55 more staff members, in part to police online activity.

On Wednesday, Antonio Padula, 45, got into a twitter fight on the subject of the Quebec City attack, refugees and Islam in general. Later that night, police arrived at his home to arrest him.

Padula was charged with "uttering threats to an individual" and "public incitement of hatred against an identifiable group."

A number of his tweets included references to killing Muslims.

The Crown actually opposed his release on bail but the judge released him anyway, on the condition, among other things, that he wouldn't use the internet. Theoretically, he could receive up to seven years in prison.

Most accounts claim that Padula had an incredulous and shocked attitude throughout the proceedings.

I don't blame him and here's one reason why: If you look at the content of the offending tweets and the context of the full fight, it's very clear that Padula was taking a "pro-refugee" position and arguing against one or more "Islamophobes."

When Padula referred to "killing all refugees at the airport, " "killing innocent Muslims while praying" and so on, he was sarcastically characterizing the alleged views of his opponents!

This would be utterly obvious to anyone even a tad on the brighter side of your average Canadian secret policeman.

Padula is a liberal, who from the look of his tweet stream (which is still up), gets into the usual arguments all the time about fake news, Donald Trump, refugees and so on. And he makes the usual liberal accusations against his opponents - they're racists, homophobes, warmongers, etc., This time, when he got into the Twitter argument  with the "Islamophobe" person (that guy could have been me!), he was quick to characterize the person's views (it's not clear how seriously) as potentially murderous.

Too quick.

Now he himself is charged with being a murderous Islamophobe.

As a Catholic, I don't believe in Karma, so I'm going to resist the temptation to mention Karma here. I have seen no evidence that Mr. Padula has ever defended criminalizing "hate speech." Rather, he seems to be in favor of free speech. Or as he put it on twitter a few days ago:

Everyone has the right to be a racist pr*ck.

How Syrian Migrants are Impacting Canada - Report from Fredericton High School

This is a "small" story or set of stories from Canada's Rebel Media. There is no terrorist attack, murder or rape. The centerpiece is the claim that two Syrian migrant boys sexually assaulted a 14-year-old Canadian girl at a high school dance. The assault was not designated a "crime," nor is it likely that it ever will be.

It was a tragic and horrific experience for the victim, who is now apparently undergoing counseling.

But in itself, it is a small story.

The larger story is how "migrants" are impacting daily life for thousands of ordinary Canadians - in this case, high school students in New Brunswick's capital city of Fredericton. And as The Rebel has suggested, these experiences can be multiplied across Canada.

The Rebel designates the story as an "Exclusive." The Toronto Sun did run a short article last year that covered some of the same general ground. 

I'm taking the liberty of reprinting most of the text. A fourteen-year-old Canadian girl has been sexually assaulted by a Syrian migrant. 

It was supposed to be a night of innocent fun and giddy excitement — her first high school dance — but for one girl at New Brunswick’s Fredericton High School, the night would go on to haunt her well after the last song was played. 

The young girl’s mother (who asked that she and her daughter have their identities protected) reached out to TheRebel.Media. 

She told us that her daughter was approached by two Syrian migrants who are enrolled at the Canadian high school. Both attempted to grind with the fourteen-year-old girl before one of the migrant students came up behind her, and aggressively touched her — her body and her breasts — before forcing his hand down her pants, touching her vagina from inside her underwear. 

Through emails and a recorded phone interview, the Fredericton mother told me that, at first, Fredericton High School belittled reports of the sex assault against her daughter, and was told to consider things from the Syrian migrant’s perspective — to consider how western girls’ clothing has the potential to create cultural tension. 

The girl’s mother informed me that the the police were aware of the sex assault and that she had hoped to press charges; however, following a questionable interaction between the young girl and one detective, there is now no sign that charges will be pressed. 

According to the girl’s mother, the Syrian migrant student was suspended for just one week and is now back at school — with her daughter. Meantime, the 14-year-old girl has missed several weeks worth of school and is now seeing a mental health professional to help her cope with the trauma. 

And it would seem this young girl isn't alone. Her mother told me that there have been complaints from other girls, too. More reports of “Syrian boys groping and touching girls’ breasts and trying to touch girls’ vaginas at previous school dances.” 

She also told me that the much older Syrian students at FHS are permitted to attend school dances, which she describes as “unfair to the younger students.” But, for reasons unclear to her, the issues — despite being well known — are not being reported. 

Now, Rebel Media sought to verify the sex assault allegations before presenting this young girl’s story to you. And so, we followed up with the school. We filed an access to information request. We informed Fredricton High School of our tip and asked that they provide any information regarding the alleged sexual assault in question. 

We received shy of one dozen pages of email transactions between teachers and school administrators, all of which authenticated our source’s story. 

Over the course of the past eight months, I have presented a dozen reports, based on over three thousand pages of documents, covering five different Canadian provinces on the topic of Syrian students abusing their peers. 

In our ongoing investigation into allegations of abuse and sexual harassment perpetrated by Syrian migrant students on Canadian children, these stories out of FHS were some of the most disturbing. Some two-thousand and seven hundred pages of email transactions between teachers, administrators, and school board members painted a picture of ongoing physical abuse and sexual harassment within their walls: 

Syrian men in their twenties enrolled in the high school, successfully hitting on the much younger girls; requests for gender segregation and prayer spaces; expressions of excitement over the Brussels bombings and hobbies that included rocket propelled grenades. 

It’s happening. There’s evidence, evidence that we here at TheRebel.Media have made publicly available. Every page of every Access to Information request we’ve filed is posted in full on our website. 

And yet, there is a country-wide cone of silence on the subject.

Quebec City Mosque Attackers Shouted "Allahu Akbar" - One Suspect is of "Arab Origin"

This evening, two or three masked men burst into the mosque of the Islamic Cultural Center in Quebec City, firing automatic weapons. At least six people were killed and eight injured. Two gunmen were quickly captured. The authorities have still not released their names.

Radio Canada earlier reported that a witness inside the Mosque had heard one of the gunmen shout "Allahu Akbar" with a Quebecois accent. Now, TVA nouvelles is reporting that one of the suspects is of "Arab origin" and the other is of "Quebec origin." The latter term is often used loosely.

UPDATE (2:20 PM CST): Montreal-based LaPresse is reporting that one of the suspects is of "Moroccan" origin.

UPDATE (3:20 PM CST): Now it's being reported that the two gunmen are students at Laval University - a school has a large Muslim population and numerous terror ties. One of the suspects in custody is "Moroccan-Canadian." An unconfirmed report claims the other is from Guinea. 

At this point it it very likely that both are Muslims. 

There is speculation that the two men were from a rival breakaway mosque but this has not been confirmed.

When news of the attack broke, social media erupted with tweets and posts blaming Donald Trump, who it was alleged had prompted the attack with his recent "anti-Muslim" travel ban. There were also more general condemnations of "hatred", "intolerance," and "Islamophobia." The Daily Beast even published the names of two "white supremacists" who had allegedly carried out the attack before being forced to retract the story after it turned out they had been hoaxed by a fairly obvious "fake news" satire piece (the "white supremacists" were second-tier right-wing media personalities).

As it began to look more and more probable that the terrorist attack was not the work of Islamophobic Trump supporters but was instead part of an internecine Muslim conflict, some of the accusations that "Trump was responsible" gave way to pleas "not to jump to conclusions." And many began to argue that "it didn't matter who the attackers were." Rather, what mattered was that "the victims were Muslim."             

Another Poisonous Fruit of Amoris Laetitia - The Atlantic Canadian Bishop's Decision on Assisted Suicide

God's "rules" and their corollaries in Church doctrine were created for man's benefit. And that applies especially to those rules that were intended to be followed not merely in general but without exception.

That fact is of course often lost in contemporary debates on, say, communion for the divorced and remarried where doctrinal rules are implicitly thought of as potential impediments that get in the way, at least if they are followed (in the language of Francis) "rigidly" or without "discernment."

According to the traditional view of the Church, forbidding admission to the Eucharist for the divorced and remarried was never a punishment, but a means to protect the sacrament of marriage as a positive good in this life, both for the married couple directly involved as well as for others. It was also intended to help the married couple involved, as well as others, get to heaven and avoid hell.

In one sense it's easy to temporarily forget that. People in irregular marital situations may indeed be in "messy," "problematic" or "complicated" predicaments - albeit ones of their own making. In one sense, no one would deny that. Whether they are now, say, admitted to communion or not, their situations will probably continue to be messy, at least in the short term. And death, where the final fate of their souls will be decided, is usually many years away.

Not so with the question of assisted suicide.

The Atlantic Canadian Bishops have just released a document allowing last rites for those intending to commit assisted suicide.

In doing so, they have given the same general arguments as those implicitly set out in Amoris Laetitia - that though suicide remains a gravely sinful act, each situation is different, culpability varies, discernment and accompaniment are paramount, people come before rules, and so on.

Indeed, the bishops explicitly cite Amoris Laetitia and the example of Pope Francis.

The effect of this will be immediate:

More suicides will go to hell.

They will be be accompanied there by their priests.

Suicide is a mortal sin. One who commits suicide will prima facie go to hell.

It is true that we can never know the internal disposition of someone at the moment of death. It is also true (in a sense at least) that "all things are possible with God." But that doesn't mean that the Church should gamble with people's souls merely to avoid awkward conflict or to appear nice or accepting to the rest of the world, or more to the point, to the suicide's family or the suicide himself. What are a few days or weeks of nice compared to an eternity separated from God?

Last rites involves confession (or what is now called the sacrament of penance or reconciliation) at least where or when possible. One of its effects is to remit sins including mortal sins. But this cannot be accomplished it the person is unrepentant. And by definition, a potential suicide continuing to desire to "go through with it" would not be so.

The goal of accompaniment here - and yes, there's nothing wrong with that word under its normal meaning - should be to comfort the person in their illness and help them to come home to their Father.

Not escort them to hell.

But accompaniment is not the ultimate good, and it can even sometimes be evil. The concentration camp guards who led people to the gas chambers were good accompaniers.

All of this should be obvious to any Catholic. Any Catholic pope would immediately put a stop to the sort of thing the Atlantic Canadian Bishops have proposed.

Of course, Francis won't. No doubt he's now getting a kick out of it.

Last week, as all the world now knows, the Pope publicly uttered two disgusting obscenities. But in a sense they were mere words or at the worst, epiphenomena of his own mental defects.

Giving last rites to assisted suicides - in effect to join the other assisters - is an obscenity a million times worse.

Bergoglio wants you to go where he's going. Don't worry, you can be with him forever and ever.

10,000 Canadians Vote in Halloween Masks To Protest Pro-Sharia Voting Law

The grassroots Canadian political movement Voting With Covered Faces was formed to oppose, seriously but with a bit of humor, the Canadian's government's recent accommodation with aggressive Islam.

Muslims have claimed that the requirement to show one's face when voting violates their religious rights, and the craven authorities have gone along with it. So now you can wear a niqab or a burka when you vote and not be required to take it off or peel it back, if even for a moment.

Voting With Covered Faces insists that opposition to this is not anti-Muslim per se, which I think gets it right. It's not anti-Muslim to believe that no group, religious or otherwise, should be allowed special rights, exemptions or favors within the democratic process.

It is totally legal and permissible to vote with your face covered. You can wear a niqab, a burqa, a Halloween mask, or any other face covering at your leisure, even a bag from potatoes. All you need is two pieces of ID, and a solemn declaration as to your identity.
